Ball lenses have a shorter focal length and a greater magnification than ordinary convex lenses. Its focal length depends on the refractive index of the material itself. Because ball lens has a short back focal length, the distance required from the ball lens to the optical fiber can be minimized, so ball lenses are mainly used in optical fiber applications.
