Metal-coated dove prisms can replace retroreflectors. Dove prisms can be considered as right-angle prisms with the excess right-angle parts removed, which reduces the weight of the prism and the internal reflection of stray light.
Dove prism may also be used in a variety of optical devices such as cameras, projectors, fingerprint scanners, accumulators, rangefinders, viewfinders, mechanical sights, etc., all of which may require the use of prisms to change the light path or achieve specific optical effects.
